Cheerson CX-20 Build and Design
The Cheerson CX-20’s design is impressive and if you are looking to stand out from the crowd, this is definitely the drone for you. The quad is compact and lightweight, weighing in at 980 grams. The outside of the CX-20 is composed of ABS plastic. This feature should offer nice degree of durability, but it will not make it indestructible. The landing gear on this quadcopters offers ample protection during landings and it is relatively big. The CX-20 is also easily-portable. The only downside is that it doesn’t come with a camera. However, the CX-20 does come with a mount that’s compatible with the GoPro camera. This means that you can attach the GoPro camera to the bottom of the quad and record all of your flying sessions. CX-20 also comes equipped with high intensity Led Lights. These lights are extremely helpful in low-light and for night flight to guide the orientation of the drone. As far as color goes, this drone is only available in white.
Cheerson CX-20 Battery
The Cheerson CX-20 comes with a 3S 11.1V 2700mAh Li-Po battery. Because of its large size, the battery takes 2 plus hours for a complete charge cycle. Possessing a flight time of 15 minutes, the CX-20 can fly for a slightly above average amount of time.
This is average flight time but take a look at drones with longest flying time, if you want to see what is the top of the market in this area.
However, keep in mind that the flight time will decrease as you add additional weight. The flight time can also fluctuate based on a variety of factors, such as what’s the weather like, how you are flying, etc. You may want to buy an extra battery if you’ll be flying your quad outdoors for an extended period of time. However, each battery costs around $30, so you will need to make this a consideration when buying your quad.
Cheerson CX-20 Transmitter
The great thing about the CX-20’s transmitter is that it simple, big and comfortable to hold in your hands, but it also feels tough and durable. The CX-20’s transmitter is not programmable and it does not come with any kind of LCD screen or mount options. Everything else is pretty standard. The transmitter comes with a power switch, two joysticks, buttons for activating the camera and trim controls. It is important to note that all the features of this drone are controlled with the combination of SWA and SWB switches on the transmitter, along with the throttle balancing. These features include Altitude Hold, Return to Home, Orientation Control and GPS Hold.
The transmitter does not come with batteries and that is the only disadvantage.
Cheerson CX-20 Flight Performance
The Cheerson CX-20 is an absolute stable flier with smooth forward, backward and sidewards transitions. It flies really well, even in windy conditions. However, the CX-20 is definitely not a fast quadcopter to thrill speedsters (but these drone are among the fastest out there – check them out). As far as general flight is concerned, you will see that this drone is easy to control and responsive. These two features will suit the average newbie quite well.
You will be able to fly the CX-20 nice and far without worrying about it losing connection with the transmitter because it has a great range of around 300 meters.
The CX-20 is not very fast. It can fly at a maximum speed of 8 m/s. This drone is a gentle flyer, built for stability instead of for speed. It is more intended for indoor flying (these are the top indoor drones btw).
Another important feature to mention is Low Voltage Protection. To prevent this quad from crashing or other unavoidable consequences caused by low battery voltage, the CX-20 comes with two levels of the Low Voltage Protection System. This feature is very important because the last thing you want is to run out of battery 30 meters in the air. At first level, the CX-20 beeps to warn you that the battery is becoming too low. However, you still have 1 to 2 minutes of fly time to land the drone safely. The second level will automatically begin to descend the quadcopter to avoid a crash.
Another amazing feature is the return-to-home function. This feature is very important for beginners because it allows you to return the quad to its original take off location when you have lost sight of it. All that you need to do is to push a button.
You can always get some trackers and make sure you don’t lose your drone – these are top drone tracking devices.
The Cheerson CX-20 also comes with extremely helpful IOC (Intelligent Orientation Control) function. This feature is super-useful because it allows you to steer the quad in the direction of your choosing if it ever goes into a spin.
The Cheerson CX-20 is an amazing brushless quadcopter and it is an excellent buy. The CX-20’s flight time and range alone make it well worth the price tag. Also, the various flight modes make it more interesting to fly. It requires minimal effort to install, just charge the battery and fly. The only problem is that the CX-20 doesn’t come with a camera. However, it can easily support one so you shouldn’t dwell on that problem for too long. See here for the drones that are best fit for GoPro camera attaching.
