The Vortex 250 Pro drone is clean, powerful and extremely robust. It is released in2015 and has everything a quad racer could want packaged into a simple-to-master and forgiving drone. The Vortex 250 is completely integrated, tuned and equipped.

These qualities allow you to be competitive in a matter of minutes. Thanks to its intelligently integrated subsystems and upgraded on-screen display, this drone is simple to tune and repair in the field. The Vortex 250 Pro needs you to install a receiver. However, it should be good to fly in a matter of minutes.

The construction and materials are the secret of the Vortex 250’s durability. This quad is equipped with 2mm-thick FR4 skid plates and 2mm-thick CF top plate. The quad also uses 4mm-thick carbon fiber flat arms which are almost unbreakable. All these amazing features make the Vortex 250 far more crash-resistant than other racing quads.

Vortex 250 Pro Flight Controller

The ImmersiomRC Fusion flight controller is a highly integrated state-of-the-art controller. It gets an extensive update for the Vortex 250 Pro. The F/C processor is updated to an F3 and the buzzer is replaced with one much louder. Also, 2MB of BlackBox log storage is now integrated and a port is added for direct serial receiver hook-up.

The new processor has twice the performance of F1. This feature enables faster flight performance and quicker loop times.

The Fusion Gen2 also comes with CleanFlight pre-installed and it is future-proof, supporting future updates.

Vortex 250 Pro Transmitter

NexWaveRF 5.8 GHz video transmitter technology includes 40 channels of support. This feature makes it compatible with any 5.8 GHz A/V receiver on the market. A new interference-reduction feature, Dynamic Power Control, has been added for the Vortex 250.

Now, Tx power is decreased whenever the 250 PRO is disarmed or ready to start. This reduces the risk of radio interference with other pilots. The integrated RaceBand system allows eight pilots to fly together.

It is controlled via the OSD so choosing the clearest channel is all done through the flight transmitter.

This drone also comes with an on-board on-screen display. This display allows video transmitter channels to be chosen using the RC transmitter. So no more frequency list to remember and you can also dump your dip-switches.

Vortex 250 Pro Camera

The camera on this quadcopter uses CMOS technology and it is considered to be a real downside. This camera is supported by a carbon-fiber plate that’s vibration dampened and it is protected from impact. An adjustable bracket allows the camera to be tilted to ensure the forward view that suits you best.

The compact Vortex 250 Pro is flexible enough to feature both a flight cam, and an HD camera such as a GoPro. Also, a 3A switch regulator is provided so you can also leave the GoPro batteries at home.

This feature allows you to run your GoPro off the flight battery pack. The mount is also included in the package with the Vortex 250.

Vortex 250 Pro Build and Design

The Vortex 250 Pro is an Almost Ready to Fly (ARF) drone and it is shipped completely tested and tuned. All it needs is a receiver, battery, display and a GoPro camera if you want to capture videos.

The Vortex 250’s frame features 2mm bottom plate and 2mm top plate with 2mm FR4 skid plates. Carbon fiber motor arms are 4mm thick. They prevent motor twisting in the air and crash against the ground. Finally, 15 aluminium stand-off members complement the body.

These features mean that this quad is built to hit objects which don’t like to move out of the way.

The Vortex 250 Pro is equipped with a set of eight LED lights. They are protected between the lower and upper frames on the tail end. You can program your favourite color, turn indicators and brake lights using a dedicated 32-bit ARM processor.

To make your drone stand out, there are many Vortex Pro 250 accessories available. They are available in many different colors, such as black, white, lime green, orange and hot pink.

A lost model beeper is also integrated into the Vortex 250. If you’re worried about losing your drone then this is the perfect feature for you. It is loud enough to be heard very clear.

BlackBox Recorder

Blackbox is a high speed recorder for flight controller data and a high speed BlackBox recorder is included with the Vortex 250 Pro.

It records flight controller date, which really helps with pro-tuning. 2MB of flash memory has been integrated for BB flight log storage. The 2MB isn’t a lot of memory.

However, it’s plenty enough to optimize your PIDs (proportional-integral-derivative) with your choice of props, camera and battery.

Conclusion

The Vortex 250 Pro is perfect RTF, intermediate to advanced quad. It flies nicely and looks really great. However, it is not quite as agile as a custom built drone. This drone is an absolute tank and you can really tell that it has been designed by some of the most experienced flyers.

The 4mm carbon fibre can really take a hit. This makes the Vortex 250 Pro perfect for beginners who are likely to crash more often and don’t want to spend all their money and time repairing the drone.

The Vortex 250 has advanced settings that will allow advanced flyers to get most out of the quad.

This drone is perfect for beginners or those who simply want a RTF drone because it is very difficult to make something custom that is better for the same price.

Since this is an older drone, we would recommend to check out newer models that are much more powerful, both in terms of flight performance and camera capabilities.
